After completing his MBBS and M.S (Surgery) from Medical College, Agra, he worked at various Medical colleges across Madhya Pradesh. He retired from Jabalpur medical College as Professor & Head of the Department of Surgery.
He then worked as Senior professor of Surgery for 5 years at Al Fatah University Medical School, Tripoli, Libya.
Dr. Mishra went to USA in 1961-62 for a year under the Government of India 's exchange visitors program, where he visited several Medical Schools to study the American methods of Surgical teaching.
He was nominated as a member of International Academy of proctology & later became Regent & Regional Editor of American Journal of Proctology. He was also given membership of the American Book Club of India.
He was awarded Honorary Master of Science in ayurvedic Medicine by the Maharashtra Council of Indian medicine.
He founded Jabalpur Surgeons Association - a first in Madhya Pradesh, leading to the formation of MP Chapter of The Surgeons Association of India.
Dr. Mishra was honoured with "Lifetime Achievement Award" by the MP Chapters of the Indian Medical Association & Association
