When you consider that we’re talking about a man who joined the RAF at 17 and served in Afghanistan, who was employed as a personal trainer to a member of the Saudi royal family and has travelled the world playing rugby, that’s quite a statement. But Gillespie’s latest project has him rattled. At least, a little. “It’s probably been the most difficult thing I’ve ever done,” he says. “All of the things I did before this involved a physical aspect, and that kind of stuff I find quite easy. But this has been just completely different.”

At 29, he is now the creative director of his own luxury fashion label, Indigo Burg. For the first time, his physical prowess gives him no advantage, and that’s daunting. After all, knowing how to nail a calisthenics workout – and Gillespie knows how to do that better than most – doesn’t give you a leg-up when selecting fabrics or learning about pattern cutting. “When I started, I could describe exactly how I wanted the brand to look and feel to everyone else,” he explains. “But in terms of talking to factories and discussing the 20 different seams you could have, I didn’t know. Born November 11, 1990, Adi Gillespie always had an eye for sport and a love for pushing his limits.

Originally from Manchester, England, Adi was training with national-level gymnasts by the age of six.

By the age of 11, he had acquired the strength and build to play rugby.

He managed to earn himself a place in South-West England’s Rugby Academy, before a wrist injury he sustained while skateboarding deferred his enrolment.

A year later he decided to join his friends in the military instead.

At the age of 17 Adi joined the UK’s Royal Air Force (RAF) and served in Afghanistan as an aircraft technician.

After seven years of serving, Adi left the RAF with a social media following of around 150,000 people, and was well on his way to becoming a fitness influencer.

By 2018, Adi became one of the leading fitness influencers in England – with an army of people supporting him on the internet.

The ex-serviceman is now a fitness model, runner and he founded UVU in 2017.
