    Murray Halberg OBE is Notable.

    Murray Halberg was born in Etakahuna, Manawatu, New Zealand to Joyce Alice Harris and Raymond Gordon Halberg. The family moved north to Auckland when Murray was a child, and he grew up playing Cricket and Rugby.

    A Rugby injury at the age of 17, put an end to any possible rugby future and Murray was forced to start over. With a severely injured left arm, he had to teach himself to do everything with his right arm, such as eating, writing and other personal things.

    Since he could no longer hold a ball or a bat, Murray began running. He met long distance running coach Arthur Lydiard in 1951 and won his first national running title in 1954.

    Murray attended the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games but finished in 11th place in the 1500 metres final.

    He also attended the 1958 and 1962 British Empire Games winning the 3 Mile gold medal at both games. At some poi
